There are a lot of aspiring artists who sometimes give up in their passion and career. All of this was because they think that they’re not making any progress in their artworks. There will come a time when you think that you are not improving or progressing. That is totally normal. Everyone gets that.
Give Yourself a Break
If ever you reach that point, it is best that you give yourself a break from using one technique and try a new one. And then, once you are rested, return to the old technique you are mastering, work on it and do comparison from how you were doing before stopping and after. Like many others have suggested, it is wise to compare your work from other artists but do not try to become like them or even think like them.
After all, what’s the purpose of becoming an artist if you would become someone else’s shadow?
Embrace the Challenge
You need to be creative and you need to fuel that creativity with passion and desire. It will be simpler to see the improvements you have when you are doing figurative works. However, closer to abstraction and more free work, the harder it becomes to advance. But this is actually a good thing because it means that you are learning.
